Web Design Huddersfield Where to start

Do I need a new website or better marketing?

Look at whether the right people are reaching the site before you decide, because the two problems look identical from the office and have opposite fixes. If the searches you want bring nobody to the site, the marketing is the weak link. If they arrive and leave without ringing, the website is. Most Huddersfield trade and manufacturing firms we meet have one of the two, and a few have both. This guide sets out how to tell them apart, what each fix involves and where the money goes furthest.

How do I tell whether the website or the marketing is the problem?

Check where the visitors come from and what they do next. Google Search Console is free and lists the searches your site appeared for and how many people clicked. If the terms you care about, say commercial electrician Huddersfield or precision engineering Kirklees, are nowhere in that list, the site is invisible for the work you want and no redesign will change that on its own.

If those searches are there and people do click, open analytics and follow them. Visitors who land on the right page, read it and leave without enquiring are telling you the website has failed to convince them. That is a website problem, and it is usually the cheaper of the two to fix.

What are the signs the website is the weak link?

The site describes the business you were five or six years ago. The services you want more of share one page with everything else, the photographs are stock or missing, the last project added is years old, and on a phone the text is tiny and the form is at the very bottom. A manufacturer with a modern shop floor and a website that shows a clip-art cog is a common sight around Huddersfield.

Ask a customer who chose you recently to look at the site and say whether they would have picked you from it alone. Their honest answer tells you more than any audit tool.

What are the signs the marketing is the weak link?

A decent site that nobody finds. You search the trade and the town and see three competitors, a directory and a national firm, and your site is on page two or nowhere. The Google Business Profile has four reviews and no photographs, LinkedIn has been quiet since the last apprentice started, and the finished jobs live on a foreman’s phone. The website could be excellent and it would still be waiting for visitors that never arrive.

Marketing, in that case, means giving the site a reason to be found: pages for each service and area, reviews asked for after every job, projects photographed and posted, and the search work to tie it together.

Can a new website fix a marketing problem?

Partly, and only if it is built for the job. A new site cannot make people search for you, but a site planned around the searches that matter, with a page for every service and the proof to back each one, does most of the groundwork the marketing needs. Dolphin Heating is the clearest example we have in Huddersfield: the website and the positioning were built together around the words customers type, and the business is number one on Google for female gas engineer Huddersfield and named in the AI answer.

What a new website cannot do is stand in for the reviews, the photographs and the ongoing search work. Build it to take them, then keep feeding it.

Where should a Huddersfield business spend first?

On whichever of the two is stopping the phone ringing today, and in most cases that is a short list. If the site is sound but invisible, spend on the pages and the search work and leave the design alone. If the site gets the right visitors and loses them, fix the message, add the proof and shorten the form before you think about a rebuild, because those changes cost a fraction of a new site and the effect shows in the enquiries quickly.

When both are broken, and on older sites they often are, a rebuild with the search work planned into it costs less than doing the two jobs separately a year apart. That is the order we work in: what you want more of, which searches bring it, what proof you have, then structure, words, photography, design and build.

Dolphin Heating

Business
Fay Dolphin’s gas and heating business in Huddersfield. One van, a Gas Safe registered engineer and more than 25 years in the trade.
Problem
A good share of Fay’s customers specifically want a female gas engineer, and a standard heating website with a list of boiler brands would have hidden the one thing that makes people pick up the phone.
Work
Website, positioning, SEO and AI search visibility, all built around the words people actually type into Google when they are looking for her.

Number one on Google for female gas engineer Huddersfield, and named in the AI answer when people ask the same thing.

“David created me a new website. He was easy to talk to and understood exactly what I wanted. I was very impressed with his knowledge and he was always on hand if I had any questions. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend David and Halizona. Excellent service.”

Bond Brickwork

Business
Brickwork and masonry contractors in Brighouse, HD6, supplying the national housebuilders on major residential developments across Yorkshire.
Problem
The buyers are developers and main contractors, and they want to see completed sites, capacity and capability before a brickwork subcontractor makes the tender list. The website has to carry that evidence and keep carrying it as the sites are finished.
Work
Website, marketing channels and business systems, designed, built and managed by Halizona as long-term marketing partner, with the search work running since 2018.

At the top of Google for the commercial brickwork searches that matter to the business, and recommended by AI search.

About Halizona

Websites from a marketing company, a short drive from Huddersfield

Halizona is a Yorkshire marketing company based in Halifax. We help established businesses get found by the right people, give those people reasons to trust them and win more of the work they actually want.

Websites, SEO, AI search, content, social media, photography, video and marketing strategy are all done here, by the same small team, which is why a site we build already knows what the marketing around it needs.

We have been working with websites and digital marketing for approaching 20 years, and today we work with businesses across West Yorkshire and nearby areas, including Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford, Leeds, Keighley and Skipton. Construction, trades and professional services make up most of the work.

Find you.Trust you.Choose you.

Common questions

Questions people ask about this

Can you improve a website another company built?

Usually, yes. If the platform lets us add pages and change the words and headings, we work with what is there and tell you if it is not worth the effort.

How quickly would we know which problem we have?

A week, at most. Search Console, analytics and a look at the site through a buyer’s eyes show it, and we will say which it is before any proposal.
